Date:

New Malware Campaign Targets Ukrainian Healthcare and Government Institutions

A recent malware campaign has emerged, targeting Ukrainian government and municipal healthcare institutions, including clinics and emergency hospitals. The Computer Emergencies Response Team of Ukraine (CERT-UA) revealed that this operation, linked to a group known as UAC-0247, exploited emails disguised as humanitarian aid proposals to trick recipients into clicking malicious links.

Once clicked, victims unknowingly downloaded harmful files capable of stealing sensitive data from Chromium-based browsers and WhatsApp. The attack has raised alarms as it potentially impacts numerous healthcare facilities and may extend to military personnel.

To protect against such threats, CERT-UA advises restricting the execution of LNK, HTA, and JS files and monitoring the use of common utilities like PowerShell and Windows Script Host.

Given the scale and sophistication of this attack, the risk level is classified as High. Organizations are urged to remain vigilant and enhance their cybersecurity measures.
