New Malware ‘AgingFly’ Targets Ukrainian Government and Hospitals
A recently discovered malware known as ‘AgingFly’ has launched attacks against local governments and healthcare facilities in Ukraine, stealing sensitive authentication data from browsers and messaging apps. The attacks were first identified by Ukraine’s CERT team last month, with potential targets including members of the Defense Forces.
The attack typically begins with an email that falsely claims to offer humanitarian aid, tricking recipients into clicking a malicious link. This link leads to compromised or fake websites, ultimately delivering the AgingFly malware. Once installed, it can steal cookies, passwords, and sensitive information from both browsers and WhatsApp.
To protect against such threats, users should avoid clicking on unfamiliar links and block the execution of certain file types, such as LNK and HTA. Given the malware’s sophisticated nature and targeted approach, the risk level is assessed as High.
