New NoVoice Malware Compromises Over 2.3 Million Android Devices
A concerning new malware known as NoVoice has infiltrated Google Play, affecting more than 2.3 million Android devices through over 50 seemingly benign applications, including cleaners and games. Discovered by cybersecurity experts at McAfee, NoVoice exploits old vulnerabilities to gain root access, allowing it to steal sensitive data, particularly from WhatsApp.
The malware operates stealthily, hiding its malicious components within legitimate app packages and using techniques to erase its traces. Once installed, it can hijack users’ WhatsApp accounts by extracting essential data for session replication.
All affected apps have been removed from Google Play. Users who previously installed these apps should consider their devices compromised. To protect against such threats, users are advised to keep their devices updated with the latest security patches and only download apps from trusted sources.
