New Malware Attack Targets Taiwanese NGOs and Universities
A recent cyberattack linked to a new malware cluster, identified as UAT-10362, has been targeting Taiwanese non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and universities. The attackers utilized spear-phishing tactics to deliver a sophisticated malware called LucidRook, which is designed to gather sensitive information and execute further malicious activities.
The attack employs deceptive file types, including LNK files disguised as PDFs and executable files masquerading as antivirus programs. Once activated, LucidRook collects system data and communicates with external servers, posing a significant threat to the compromised organizations.
Affected entities may face severe consequences, including data loss and reputational damage. To safeguard against such threats, users are advised to be cautious with email attachments, maintain updated antivirus software, and conduct regular security training.
