Crunchyroll Faces Data Breach Affecting 6.8 Million Users
Crunchyroll, the popular anime streaming platform, is currently investigating a significant data breach that may have exposed personal information of around 6.8 million users. Hackers claimed to have accessed the platform through a compromised support agent’s Okta SSO account linked to Telus International, a business process outsourcing company.
The breach occurred on March 12, 2023, during which attackers reportedly downloaded 8 million support ticket records, including user names, email addresses, IP addresses, and other details. Although some credit card information was accessed, it was primarily limited to partial details provided by users in support tickets.
Crunchyroll is working with cybersecurity experts to address the situation and has not responded to the hacker’s extortion demand of $5 million to prevent data leaks.
