Malware Attack Targets Popular Hardware Monitoring Site
In a recent cybersecurity breach, the well-known website CPUID, which offers hardware monitoring tools like CPU-Z and HWMonitor, was compromised for less than 24 hours. From April 9 to April 10, 2026, attackers replaced legitimate download links with malicious ones, distributing a remote access trojan known as STX RAT.
The breach affected numerous users, with over 150 victims reported, primarily individuals, but also organizations across various sectors including retail and telecommunications. Notably, most infections were traced back to Brazil, Russia, and China.
Although the attack was short-lived, it highlighted the risks associated with downloading software from compromised sites. Users are advised to ensure they download software only from official sources and to maintain up-to-date antivirus protection.
