Malware Attack Targets Axios: What You Need to Know
A significant cybersecurity incident has struck Axios, a widely used HTTP client in the JavaScript ecosystem. Recently, two versions of its npm package—1.14.1 and 0.30.4—were found to contain a malicious dependency known as “plain-crypto-js” that acts as a remote access trojan (RAT).
The attack exploited compromised credentials of the primary maintainer, allowing attackers to publish these dangerous versions. As a result, users across macOS, Windows, and Linux are at risk, with the potential for unauthorized access to their systems.
With over 83 million weekly downloads, the impact is extensive. Users are urged to immediately downgrade to safe versions (1.14.0 or 0.30.3), check for malicious artifacts, and rotate their credentials.
