Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a serious malware attack involving the widely-used Axios library, a tool essential for modern web applications. An attacker exploited the credentials of a lead maintainer to release malicious versions, specifically axios@1.14.1 and axios@0.30.4, which can infect developers’ systems with a Remote Access Trojan (RAT).
This incident affects countless developers and projects, as Axios sees up to 100 million downloads weekly. While end-users of applications built with Axios are not directly at risk, developers who installed the compromised versions should consider their systems compromised and rotate any sensitive keys or tokens.
