Mac Users Targeted: ClickFix Attack via Fake Claude Search

Date:

New Malware Threat Targets macOS Users via Deceptive Ads

Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a new malware attack method that exploits sponsored search results to target macOS users. Cybercriminals are using misleading ads that appear to lead to the legitimate Claude AI website but actually direct victims to rogue shared chats. These chats instruct users to execute harmful commands that install infostealer malware on their devices.

The ClickFix method tricks users into running commands that download malicious scripts, allowing attackers to harvest sensitive data such as browser credentials and crypto wallet information. This attack primarily affects macOS users who may unknowingly compromise their security by following these deceptive prompts.

To protect yourself, avoid running commands from untrusted sources, verify instructions independently, and steer clear of sponsored ads. Keeping your device secure with up-to-date anti-malware solutions is crucial.
