JDownloader Hacked: Python RAT Malware Replaces Installers

Date:

Cybersecurity Alert: JDownloader Compromised in Supply Chain Attack

Earlier this week, the official website for JDownloader, a popular download manager, was compromised, leading to the distribution of malicious installers for Windows and Linux. Users who downloaded the software between May 6 and May 7, 2026, may have unwittingly installed a remote access trojan (RAT) on their devices.

The attack specifically targeted the alternative Windows and Linux installer links, while other installation methods remained safe. Millions of users who rely on JDownloader for automated downloads are at risk, as the malware can execute arbitrary code on infected systems.

To protect yourself, avoid downloading installers from the affected period. If you suspect your system is compromised, it is advisable to reinstall your operating system and reset your passwords. Always verify the digital signatures of installers to ensure their legitimacy.

Risk Level: High

Stay vigilant and keep your software updated to minimize the risk of future attacks.
