New Malware Attack Targets IoT Devices with DDoS Botnet

Cybersecurity experts have discovered a new botnet named xlabs_v1, derived from the infamous Mirai malware, which specifically targets internet-connected devices. This botnet exploits devices running Android Debug Bridge (ADB) to launch powerful distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.

The attack primarily affects Android TV boxes, smart TVs, and IoT devices with exposed ADB services. Researchers found that xlabs_v1 can generate significant junk traffic, making it a potential threat to online gaming servers, particularly those hosting games like Minecraft.

The impact is considerable as this botnet can bypass basic DDoS protections, leading to service outages for affected users and businesses. To protect against this threat, users are advised to disable ADB on connected devices and ensure their firmware is updated.

Given its capabilities and targeted approach, the risk level of xlabs_v1 is classified as High.
