Vimeo Data Breach: 119K Users’ Personal Info Compromised!

Date:

Major Data Breach at Vimeo Exposes Personal Information of Over 119,000 Users

In April 2023, the ShinyHunters extortion gang hacked Vimeo, a popular video hosting platform, compromising personal data of over 119,000 individuals. The breach was linked to unauthorized access through Anodot, a data anomaly detection company used by Vimeo.

While Vimeo confirmed that no financial data or login credentials were compromised, customer email addresses and names were exposed. The company acted swiftly by disabling Anodot credentials and engaging security experts to investigate. Despite their efforts, ShinyHunters leaked a 106GB archive of the stolen information on the dark web, claiming the company failed to meet their extortion demands.

Affected users should remain vigilant for phishing attempts using their exposed email addresses. To protect against future breaches, it’s crucial to use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication where possible.

Risk Level: High. The exposure of personal data increases the likelihood of targeted attacks against affected individuals.
