ADT Suffers Major Data Breach: 5.5 Million Affected by ShinyHunters Attack

In a significant cybersecurity incident, home security giant ADT has reported a data breach affecting 5.5 million individuals, following an attack by the notorious ShinyHunters extortion group. The breach, detected on April 20, exposed personal information, including names, phone numbers, and addresses. In some cases, it also included dates of birth and partial Social Security numbers.

ADT confirmed that the breach was facilitated through a compromised employee’s Okta account, allowing ShinyHunters access to sensitive data stored in Salesforce. While the attackers claimed to have stolen over 10 million records, ADT stated that no payment information was accessed, and customer security systems remained uncompromised.

To protect against such incidents, individuals are advised to monitor their accounts closely, enable two-factor authentication, and be cautious of phishing attempts.

Risk Level: High.
