Cyberattack on Itron: Unauthorized Access to Internal Systems

Utility technology company Itron, Inc. recently reported a cyberattack that involved unauthorized access to its internal IT network. The incident, discovered on April 13, 2026, prompted Itron to activate its cybersecurity response plan, notify law enforcement, and engage external experts to investigate and mitigate the breach.

While the attack did not disrupt business operations or extend to customer data, it raised concerns due to Itron’s role in managing critical infrastructure for energy and water resources. The company, based in Washington and employing approximately 5,600 people, serves over 7,700 customers globally.

Itron is currently investigating the incident’s full scope but has noted that no follow-up activity has been detected. To protect against similar threats, organizations should ensure robust cybersecurity measures, regular system audits, and employee training on recognizing suspicious activity.
