Cybersecurity researchers at SentinelOne have uncovered a previously undocumented malware strain, codenamed “fast16,” believed to date back to 2005. This Lua-based malware is designed to sabotage high-precision calculation software, potentially impacting critical sectors like engineering and physics.
The malware’s sophisticated design allows it to introduce systematic errors into calculations, threatening scientific research and engineered systems. While its origins remain mysterious, the malware appears to have been developed for state-backed operations, possibly targeting facilities similar to Iran’s nuclear program.
