ADT Faces Data Breach as ShinyHunters Extortion Group Strikes
Home security leader ADT has confirmed a significant data breach after the notorious ShinyHunters group threatened to leak stolen information unless a ransom is paid. ADT detected unauthorized access to customer data on April 20 and quickly terminated the intrusion.
The breach reportedly involved personal information, including names, phone numbers, and addresses. In some cases, dates of birth and partial Social Security numbers were also compromised. Fortunately, ADT assured that no payment details were accessed, and customer security systems remained intact.
Affected individuals have been notified, but the ShinyHunters group claims to have stolen over 10 million records and has issued a warning to ADT to act quickly or face data leaks.
To protect against such attacks, users should enable two-factor authentication and stay vigilant against phishing attempts.
