New Malware Attack Targets Android Users in Brazil via Trojanized HandyPay App

Cybersecurity experts have identified a significant malware attack involving a malicious version of the HandyPay app, which has been manipulated to steal sensitive payment information. This new variant of the Android malware family known as NGate primarily targets users in Brazil.

The attackers have repurposed HandyPay, a legitimate app used for NFC transactions, to capture payment card data and PINs, enabling unauthorized cash withdrawals and transactions. Victims are tricked into downloading the infected app through fake lottery websites, which prompt them to claim prizes.

The impact of this attack can be severe for affected individuals, potentially leading to financial loss and identity theft. To protect against such threats, users should avoid downloading apps from untrusted sources and always verify app permissions.

Risk Level: High – Given the nature of the attacks and the potential financial consequences for victims, vigilance is essential.
