Cybersecurity Alert: New Malware Targets Vulnerable IoT Devices

On April 18, 2026, cybersecurity experts reported a significant malware attack exploiting vulnerabilities in TBK DVR devices and outdated TP-Link routers. The attackers are deploying a variant of the Mirai botnet, known as Nexcorium, to compromise these devices, which are increasingly targeted due to their weak security.

The affected devices include TBK DVR-4104 and DVR-4216 models, as well as various TP-Link router models that no longer receive updates. This attack could lead to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, affecting users’ internet access and potentially crippling networks.

To protect against such threats, users are urged to update their devices, change default passwords, and consider replacing unsupported models. The risk level of this attack is High, given the potential for widespread disruption and the exploitation of known vulnerabilities. Staying informed and proactive is key to safeguarding against these emerging threats.
