Kraken Faces Extortion Threat Amid Insider Breach

The popular cryptocurrency exchange Kraken is currently dealing with a cyber extortion attempt after discovering insider threats within its organization. A criminal group is demanding payment, threatening to release videos showcasing access to client data.

Kraken’s Chief Security Officer, Nick Percoco, confirmed that the incident involved two support employees who improperly accessed limited customer information. Fortunately, client funds remain secure, and only about 2,000 accounts—representing 0.02% of Kraken’s user base—are affected.

The company has stated it will not comply with the demands of the extortionists and is actively pursuing legal action against those involved. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of insider threats in the cryptocurrency sector.

To protect yourself, Kraken advises users to enable two-factor authentication and monitor their accounts for unusual activity.
