Ransomware Attack Disrupts Dutch Healthcare Software Provider ChipSoft
In a significant cybersecurity incident, Dutch healthcare software vendor ChipSoft fell victim to a ransomware attack, leading to the shutdown of its website and essential digital services. ChipSoft is the main provider of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in the Netherlands, with its HiX platform widely used across hospitals.
The attack was confirmed after users reported issues on social media, prompting ChipSoft to notify healthcare institutions of potential unauthorized access. The company’s internal memo advised all healthcare centers to disconnect from its systems until the threat is fully assessed and resolved.
Hospitals including Sint Jans Gasthuis and Flevo Hospital reported system outages, affecting patient care. The national cybersecurity agency, Z-CERT, is collaborating with ChipSoft to investigate the breach and assist in recovery.
To protect against such attacks, healthcare providers should regularly update their security protocols and remain vigilant.
