Masjesu Botnet: DDoS-for-Hire Threatens Global IoT Security

Date:

Title: Emerging Masjesu Botnet Targets IoT Devices in DDoS Attacks

Cybersecurity researchers have unveiled a new threat: the Masjesu botnet, a sophisticated tool for carry out distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Since its emergence in 2023, Masjesu has been marketed on Telegram as a DDoS-for-hire service, targeting a variety of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including routers and cameras.

The botnet’s stealthy operations have raised concerns, as it deliberately avoids high-security networks, like those belonging to the Department of Defense, ensuring its longevity. Countries such as Vietnam, Ukraine, and Brazil have been identified as primary sources of DDoS traffic.

To protect against such threats, users should regularly update their device firmware, use strong passwords, and disable unnecessary services.

Risk Level: High – With its growing prevalence and ability to exploit numerous devices, Masjesu represents a significant cybersecurity threat.
