European Commission Faces Major Data Breach in Cloud Environment

The European Commission is currently investigating a significant security breach involving its Amazon cloud services. A threat actor gained unauthorized access to at least one of the Commission’s AWS accounts, reportedly stealing over 350 GB of sensitive data, including employee information and databases.

While the Commission has not publicly acknowledged the incident, sources indicate that their cybersecurity team promptly detected the breach. The attacker claims they will leak the stolen data online, although they have stated they will not extort the Commission.

This incident follows a recent data breach in January linked to attacks on other European institutions, raising concerns about the security of critical infrastructure in the EU.

To protect yourself, ensure your passwords are strong and unique, enable two-factor authentication, and stay informed about cybersecurity best practices.
