Dutch Police Exposes WordPress Hack: Phishing Attack Details Revealed

Date:

Phishing Attack Targets Dutch Police, No Citizen Data Compromised

The Dutch National Police recently reported a phishing attack that successfully breached their security systems. Prompt action by the police’s Security Operations Center quickly detected the incident, blocking the attackers’ access before any significant damage occurred.

While the investigation is ongoing, officials confirmed that no citizens’ personal data or sensitive investigative information was compromised. However, details regarding potential exposure of employee data remain unclear.

This incident follows a previous cyberattack in September 2024, linked to a “state actor,” which resulted in the theft of contact information for several police officers. In light of these events, the police have implemented enhanced security measures, including continuous system monitoring and mandatory two-factor authentication for officers.

To protect yourself from phishing attacks, always verify email sources, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and use strong, unique passwords.
