Data Breach Alert: Infinite Campus Targeted by Hackers
Infinite Campus, a popular K-12 student information system, has informed its customers of a data breach linked to an extortion attempt by hackers. The threat group, ShinyHunters, accessed an employee’s Salesforce account, exposing mainly publicly available information, including names and contact details of school staff.
Although the breach’s impact appears limited—no sensitive customer databases were compromised—Infinite Campus is taking precautions by disabling certain services and scanning Salesforce data for potential threats. The group has threatened to leak further data unless a ransom is negotiated by March 25, but Infinite Campus has stated it will not engage with the attackers.
With over 3,200 school districts and 11 million students affected, the incident raises significant concerns. While the immediate risk level is considered Medium, schools should remain vigilant and update their security protocols to safeguard against future attacks.
